The familiar sticky note remains useful because it is simple and highly visible, but it also has a short lifespan. Seeed Studio approaches the idea differently with the reTerminal Sticky, a small electronic slate designed to display information repeatedly and remain attached to convenient locations around a home or workspace.
Measuring 106 x 65.5 x 7.3 mm, the device features an 800 x 480-pixel ePaper display with touch input. Users can tap the screen to record a voice note, after which its AI system converts the spoken message into text for display. The device can then be attached to a magnetic surface where the reminder remains visible.
Four N52 magnets are built into the corners of the housing, while an adhesive magnetic ring is included for mounting on non-magnetic surfaces. This makes it possible to position the reTerminal Sticky on places such as a wall near an entrance or other high-traffic areas.
The device is not limited to simple reminders. Built-in applications can display the time and weather, while a companion mobile app allows users to create notes using either a digital keyboard or voice input. The software is also designed with customization in mind. Compatibility with firmware platforms such as OpenDisplay and ESPHome allows users to modify the device and potentially adapt it for applications including e-reading or smart-home control.
An ESP32 microcontroller manages the display, touch interface, sensors, wireless connectivity and local storage, supported by 8MB of RAM. A 750mAh battery is charged through USB-C. Wireless functions and voice processing consume power, but the ePaper screen can retain a displayed message without continuously drawing energy. Seeed Studio estimates up to one week of typical use, with battery life potentially extending to months for applications that require only occasional screen updates.
The reTerminal Sticky therefore sits somewhere between a digital note, a small information display and an open hardware platform. Its ePaper screen keeps information visible at a glance, while voice input and software customization give the familiar sticky-note concept considerably more flexibility.
