Paper sticky notes remain a simple way to leave reminders, but they are often discarded after a single use. The reTerminal Sticky replaces disposable notes with a reusable electronic display that can be updated repeatedly while consuming very little power.
The device features a 3.97-inch touch-enabled E Ink display with a resolution of 800 × 480 pixels. Thanks to the characteristics of electronic paper, the screen retains its displayed content even when power is no longer supplied, significantly improving battery efficiency.
Its standout feature is AI-powered voice-to-text functionality. Users simply tap the display, record a spoken reminder, and the built-in AI converts the speech into text that appears on the screen. The device can then be attached to refrigerators, filing cabinets, or other magnetic surfaces where reminders remain clearly visible.
Beyond note-taking, the reTerminal Sticky includes built-in applications for displaying the time, weather information, and custom graphics. Users who prefer typing can enter notes through a companion smartphone app, which also supports voice input.
The device is designed with flexibility in mind. Compatibility with open firmware platforms such as OpenDisplay and ESPHome allows developers and enthusiasts to customize its functionality, turning it into an e-reader, a smart home controller, or a dedicated information display.
Powering the system is an ESP32 microcontroller responsible for the display, touch interface, wireless communication, sensors, and onboard storage, supported by 8 MB of RAM. The reTerminal Sticky also includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 750 mAh rechargeable battery that charges through USB-C. According to Seeed Studio, typical battery life reaches about one week, while applications requiring only occasional display updates can operate for several months thanks to the low power consumption of the E Ink screen.
Measuring 106 × 65.5 × 7.3 mm, the device incorporates four N52 magnets within its housing. An adhesive magnetic ring is also included, allowing it to be mounted on non-magnetic surfaces such as walls or near light switches.
Combining reusable hardware, AI-powered note-taking, and an open development platform, the reTerminal Sticky offers a versatile alternative to traditional sticky notes for homes, offices, and smart environments.
