The smart glasses market continues to expand as major technology companies introduce AI-powered wearable devices. With the Galaxy Glasses, Samsung aims to deliver hands-free access to artificial intelligence while leveraging its broader ecosystem of connected Galaxy products.
The glasses feature built-in cameras that allow users to take photos, answer phone calls, listen to music, and interact with Google Gemini. Using information captured through the cameras, Gemini can answer questions about the surrounding environment and provide contextual assistance in real time.
A key feature of the Galaxy Glasses is their integration with other Samsung devices. When paired with a Galaxy Watch, users can trigger the camera with a simple hand gesture, enabling discreet photo capture without touching the glasses. Images are automatically synchronized to a dedicated album on a Galaxy smartphone, while incoming calls can also be routed through the glasses for hands-free conversations.
According to Samsung, the device delivers up to nine hours of operation on a single charge. Its charging case provides up to seven additional full charges, extending usage over multiple days. Powering the glasses is Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor, designed specifically for smart glasses and augmented reality applications.
Beyond photography and communication, the Galaxy Glasses support turn-by-turn navigation, real-time speech translation, AI-generated summaries of lengthy messages, and live video sharing during video calls. These capabilities are intended to make interactions with AI more natural while reducing the need to constantly access a smartphone.
Samsung introduced two frame designs during its recent Galaxy Unpacked event and plans to offer additional styles when the product launches later this year.
Alongside these new capabilities, the Galaxy Glasses also highlight ongoing privacy considerations surrounding wearable cameras. As smart glasses become more capable and widely adopted, manufacturers will continue to face the challenge of balancing innovative features with responsible safeguards for image and video capture in public environments.
