Oppo Bubble turns rear smartphone cameras into better selfie tools

(wcsa.world) For years, smartphone manufacturers have equipped their devices with increasingly powerful rear cameras, yet most selfies and personal videos continue to rely on lower-quality front-facing lenses. Oppo’s new Bubble accessory aims to bridge that gap by providing a dedicated screen that allows users to monitor rear-camera footage in real time.

Introduced alongside the Reno 16 series in China, the Oppo Bubble is a circular magnetic display that attaches to the back of compatible smartphones. The accessory wirelessly mirrors the live view from the rear camera, allowing users to frame shots, adjust composition, and trigger captures while taking advantage of the phone’s highest-quality camera system.

The device features a circular AMOLED touchscreen, chosen for its vivid colors, strong contrast, and compact design. Rather than resembling a conventional display module, the Bubble adopts a distinctive round form factor that gives it the appearance of a lifestyle accessory while maintaining practical functionality.

Beyond camera monitoring, the display can show custom wallpapers, animated themes, photos, videos, and other visual content when not actively being used for photography. This allows the accessory to remain useful as part of the smartphone experience instead of serving a single-purpose role.

One of the Bubble’s most interesting capabilities is its wireless operating range of up to 10 meters. This effectively transforms the accessory into a remote camera monitor rather than merely a selfie aid. Users can place a smartphone on a tripod, move several meters away, and still monitor framing while controlling the shutter remotely. Such functionality could benefit content creators, vloggers, and group photography scenarios where accurate composition is important.

Power is supplied by an integrated 550 mAh battery, while magnetic attachment enables quick installation and removal. However, live camera preview functionality is currently limited to selected models within the Reno 16 lineup, restricting compatibility at launch.

Oppo has also hinted at additional versions of the Bubble in the future, suggesting the concept may evolve beyond a simple phone accessory. As smartphone ecosystems continue to expand, the Bubble demonstrates how a relatively simple hardware addition can solve a long-standing user problem while creating new possibilities for mobile photography and video creation.
