Designed for portability, the Carry weighs approximately 35 kg (77 lb) and features integrated wheels and a handle for easy transportation. Its pyramid-shaped frame, built from carbon fiber and aluminum alloy, provides stability during training while remaining compact enough for storage and transport. According to Lumistar, the machine can be set up and ready for use in about 60 seconds without requiring tools.
Instead of using a remote control, players simply move into position and signal with a hand gesture when ready. AI biometric recognition identifies the player's location before delivering passes that match the user's movement and shooting rhythm, creating a more natural training experience than conventional ball machines.
The system employs four cameras, including three outward-facing 2K HD cameras to track player movement and one upward-facing camera to monitor the ball's trajectory toward and away from the basket. Together, they analyze shooting form, ball trajectory, backspin, court positioning, and scoring while minimizing blind spots throughout the session.
Lumistar also focuses on realistic passing performance. The Carry is designed to reproduce human-like passes with varying speed, spin, and release height. It supports passing distances of up to 10 meters (33 feet), generates ball spin of up to 500 RPM, and delivers passes at intervals as short as 2.5 seconds, enabling fast-paced shooting drills.
The system supports training for up to five players in a single session, complete with live scorekeeping and on-screen leaderboards. In multi-ball mode, as many as four basketballs can be used simultaneously while the AI continues tracking multiple players in real time.
Training sessions can be managed through the built-in 10-inch touchscreen or the Lumistar mobile app. Every session is automatically saved, allowing players to review shooting statistics, AI-generated heat maps, historical performance, and personalized coaching feedback. The AI Coach can also recommend customized training plans based on strengths, weaknesses, court movement, and shooting consistency.
Safety features include AI-powered sensors surrounding the machine that automatically pause ball delivery whenever someone enters the protected operating zone. The non-friction ball delivery mechanism is compatible with size 6 and size 7 basketballs, helping reduce wear during extended practice.
Power is supplied by a replaceable battery capable of delivering up to four hours of training per charge, while direct AC power is also supported.
