Portable lighting is an essential part of camping, but traditional lanterns typically illuminate only a limited area and often attract insects. The Heone-X takes a different approach by lifting a high-powered LED lighting system into the air, creating broader and more evenly distributed illumination.
The drone is capable of hovering at heights of up to 10 m (32 ft). According to the company, it can light an area of approximately 1,000 m² (10,760 sq ft), providing overhead illumination that improves visibility around campsites while keeping the light source away from ground level.
Unlike conventional drones that depend entirely on onboard batteries, the Heone-X remains connected to a portable ground station through a tether that continuously supplies power. This enables the drone to remain airborne for up to 24 hours, eliminating the need for frequent landings to recharge or replace batteries. One-touch controls on the power station allow users to launch or retrieve the drone easily.
Another notable feature is its ability to follow the user automatically. When the ground power station is moved, the drone adjusts its position accordingly, maintaining overhead lighting while people relocate around a campsite or outdoor venue.
The included power station features a 480 Wh battery and also serves as a portable power source for other electronic devices. Multiple power outlets and USB ports allow users to recharge smartphones, cameras, and other equipment, while an automatic cable retraction system neatly rewinds the tether with the press of a button.
Beyond camping, Heone envisions the system being used for night fishing, outdoor sports, and other nighttime activities that benefit from elevated, wide-area lighting without requiring permanent light poles or generators.
The Heone-X is currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter. If the campaign proceeds as planned, worldwide deliveries are expected to begin in November 2026, making it one of the more unconventional approaches to portable outdoor lighting in recent years.
