Top spectacular natural landmarks of the world (P.180) Alamere Falls: The rare tidefall of California

24-05-2023

(wcsa.world) Alamere Falls is a spectacular waterfall that cascades onto a scenic beach. It’s one of the Bay Area’s most popular hiking destinations.

Alamere Falls is a waterfall in Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California. Alamere Falls is a rare "tidefall", a waterfall that flows directly into the ocean. It is one of only two known tidefalls in California, the other being McWay Falls.

Alamere Falls tumble over fragile shale cliffs at Alamere Creek Beach. Upstream of the main Alamere Falls is the upper Alamere Falls, consisting of three separate cascades. Together, these cascades are approximately 6–9 m in height. All of these waterfalls are fed by Alamere Creek.

To see the falls at their fullest, make the hike to Alamere Falls in the Winter or Spring after heavy rain. Alamere Falls is an incredibly popular trail, so it is important to start your hike early, regardless of when you go. To beat the crowds, arrive at the trailhead before 8 am.
