The company’s milestones:

29 December 1945 - The company was incorporated in Amalner, India, by Mohamed Premji as Western India Vegetable Products Limited, later abbreviated to Wipro.

On 7 June 1977 - The name of the company changed from Western India Vegetable Products Limited, to Wipro Products Limited.

1980 - Wipro launched information technology services for the domestic market, setting up in Bangalore a crack-team of R&D and marketing managers, headed by Ashok Narasimhan.

1982 - The name was changed again, from Wipro Products Limited to Wipro Limited.

1985 - Wipro begins to manufacture toilet soaps, PCs, and dot-matrix printers.

 

 

1989 - General Electric and Wipro create a joint venture for medical systems.

1992 - Lighting business is established.

1995 - Wipro discarded its PC brand when it formed a joint venture with Acer, a Taiwan-based computer and peripherals manufacturer and distributor.

1998 - Wipro GE emerged as the largest healthcare systems company in South Asia, and in that same year, became the top exporter of such systems in India.

1999 - Wipro was listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

August of 2000 -  Wipro launched a "Portal-in-a-Box," which was a fixed-price, end-to-end solution to help businesses create a sales presence on the Web.

2004 - Wipro became the second Indian IT company to earn $1 billion in annual revenue.

2012 - Wipro demerged its non-IT businesses into a separate company called Wipro Enterprises.Prior to this demerger, these businesses, mainly in the consumer care, lighting, furniture, hydraulics, water treatment, and medical diagnostics, contributed about 10% of Wipro's total revenues.

 

 

2020 - Wipro has committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2040, with an intermittent goal of reducing emissions 55% by 2030.

October 2021 - Wipro's Net Zero plans were certified by the Science-based Targets Initiative.
