The airline serves more destinations non-stop from a single airport than any other airline in the world and flies to 126 countries, more than any other airline. With an operational fleet of 24 cargo aircraft, the airline's cargo division Turkish Cargo serves 82 destinations.



Turkish Airlines' main hub is Istanbul Airport, which is one of the busiest airports in the world. The airline also has hubs at Antalya Airport, Dalaman Airport, Ercan International Airport, and Konya Airport. Turkish Airlines is also a member of the Star Alliance.

  • 1933: Turkish State Airlines was established with five planes and fewer than 30 employees.
  • 1947: The airline conducted its first overseas flight, from Istanbul to Athens.
  • 1951: The fleet increased to 33 aircraft and the airline began to fly to new destinations: Nicosia, Beirut, and Cairo.
  • 1955: The airline took the name of Turkish Airlines.
  • 1961: Turkish Airlines made its first flight over the Atlantic Ocean, from the USA to Istanbul.
  • 1973: the first McDonnell Douglas DC-10 European aircraft was added to its fleet.
  • 1985: Turkish Airlines had a fleet of 30 aircraft. It was flying approximately three million passengers a year to 16 domestic destinations and three dozen international ones.
  • 1998: Turkish Airlines website was launched.
  • 2001: The airline put its call center into service.
  • 2003: e-tickets and check-in were launched.
  • 2008: Turkish Airlines joined the global airline confederation, Star Alliance.
  • 2013: Turkish Airlines increased their number of flight points to 241 destinations worldwide (199 international and 42 domestic).
  • 2018: Turkish Airlines continued to grow, transporting 75.2 million passengers, up 9.5% over the previous year, and expanding its network to become the fourth-largest flight network globally with the highest number of countries and international destinations worldwide.
  • 2022: Turkish Airlines flew to 340 destinations in 129 countries, including 53 domestic and 12 in the United States.
