Thai Airways is headquartered in Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, Chatuchak district, Bangkok, and primarily operates from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thai Airways is a founding member of the Star Alliance. Thai Airways is known for its friendly and attentive service. It offers a variety of classes of service, including Royal First Class, Royal Silk Class, and Economy Class.

 

 

The airline serves 40 international destinations using a fleet of 46 aircraft, that consist of wide-body aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus, while the subsidiary Thai Smile operates narrow-body aircraft. Thai's route network is dominated by flights to Europe and Asia, though the airline serves two cities in Oceania. Among Asia-Pacific carriers, the company has one of the largest passenger operations in Europe. As of the end of 2019, 1,438 of its 22,054 employees were pilots.

  • 1960: Thai Airways International was founded as a joint venture between Scandinavian Airlines System and Thailand's domestic carrier, Thai Airways Company.
  • 1971: The airline's first intercontinental services are flights to Australia.
  • 1972: The airline has its first flight to Europe
  • 1980: The airline has its first flight to North America
  • 1988: Then-Prime Minister Gen. Prem Tinsulanonda, merged the international and domestic operations of the two companies to form the present company, Thai Airways International, to have a single national carrier.
  • 1991: The reconfigured company listed its shares on the Stock Exchange of Thailand and offered them to the public.
  • 1997: Thai Airways, along with Lufthansa, Air Canada, SAS, and United Airlines, founded the world's first and largest airline alliance, Star Alliance.
  • 2005: Thai Airways opened its first non-stop service to North America.
  • 2012: The airline received its first Airbus A380 Aircraft, with the purpose of implementing the aircraft on its main European routes.
  • 2016: Thai Airways won two prestigious awards by Skytrax for Most Improved Airline and Best Airline Lounge Spa Facility. THAI Smile, Thai Airways’ regional subsidiary, announced four new services to Gaya, Jaipur, Varanasi, and Lucknow in India marking the expansion of THAI’s network on the regional market.
  • 2019: Thai Airways announced its plans for fleet renewal of 38 new aircraft.
  • 2023: Thai Airways announced that it will merge Thai Smile back into the parent company.
