(wcsa.world) Subaru Corporation is a Japanese multinational corporation and conglomerate primarily involved in both terrestrial and aerospace transportation manufacturing. It is best known for its line of Subaru automobiles.

The company's aerospace division is a defense contractor to the Japanese government, manufacturing Boeing and Lockheed Martin helicopters and airplanes under license. This same division is a global development and manufacturing partner to both companies.

Currently, the Subaru Corporation makes Subaru brand cars, and its aerospace division makes utility and attack helicopters for the Japanese Self Defense Force, trainers, unmanned aerial vehicles, and the center wings of Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 jets. In the past, FHI made parts for the Hawker Beechcraft and Eclipse Aviation business jets.

1953: Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) — now known as Subaru Corporation — was incorporated as an aircraft manufacturing, marketing and maintenance company.

1954: The FHI P-1 automotive prototype was unveiled.
1958: An instant best-seller in its domestic market, the Subaru 360 was released.
1972: The world’s first mass-produced 4WD passenger car, the Subaru Leone 4WD Station Wagon, was released.
1987: The Subaru Justy showcased the world’s first electro-continuously variable transmission (ECVT).
1991: Subaru introduced the SVX high-performance luxury coupe.
2003: The Subaru Legacy was named Car of the Year Japan.
2005: The Subaru Tribeca, the largest and most luxurious vehicle in the line-up, was introduced.
2010: The Subaru Outback was named Utility of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).
2012: Subaru was the 22nd largest automaker in world production as of the end of the year.
2014: The company entered into a contract with Boeing Commercial Airplanes, as one of five major Japanese companies contracted, to build parts for Boeing's 777X aircraft.
2016: The 5th generation Impreza was introduced. It is the first Subaru vehicle to employ the new Subaru Global Platform architecture.
2017: Fuji Heavy Industries changed to Subaru Corporation.
2018: Subaru Canada announced its first-ever plug-in hybrid vehicle.
2019: Subaru Legacy named 2020 Midsize Car of the Year by Auto123.
2020: AJAC awarded Subaru Best Large Car in Canada for 2020 (Legacy) and Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2020 (Outback).
