The company’s milestones:

1905: The company was founded by William Pigott Sr. as Seattle Car Manufacturing Company, with a capitalization of $10,000.

1908: The Seattle Car Manufacturing Co. opened a modern railcar manufacturing plant in Renton.

1911: The name was changed to Seattle Car and Foundry Company.

1915: The company later merged with Twohy Brothers of Portland in 1915 to become Pacific Car and Foundry Company, a name it retained for the next 55 years.

1945: The company entered the heavy-duty truck market in 1945 with its first major acquisition, Kenworth Motor Truck Company of Seattle.


1958: Pacific Car and Foundry greatly expanded its heavy-duty truck capability with the purchase of Peterbilt Motors Company.

1960: Carco Acceptance Corporation, currently PACCAR Financial Corp., was launched to facilitate domestic sales of trucks.

1970: PACCAR created an overseas manufacturing facility at Bayswater, Melbourne Australia producing Kenworth Trucks.

1972: "Pacific Car and Foundry Company" no longer accurately reflected the company's products and activities, directors and shareholders voted to adopt PACCAR Inc as its new name in 1972.


1973: Two main divisions of PACCAR were established. PACCAR International Inc. to promote exports worldwide and PACCAR Parts Division.

1980: Paccar Technical Center was established in 1980 in Mount Vernon, Washington, as a research and testing facility.

1981: PACCAR became a European truck manufacturer with the acquisition of Foden Trucks in Sandbach, U.K.

1998: The acquisition of DAF Trucks N.V. in 1996 and Leyland Trucks established PACCAR as one of the major truck manufacturers in the world.


2010: PACCAR unveiled its PACCAR MX engine line for North America.

2013: PACCAR expanded its global operations with the opening of a new DAF factory in Ponta Grossa, Brazil.

2017: PACCAR announced its Silicon Valley Innovation Center in Sunnyvale, California in 2017.

Fiscal year 2022: the company achieved revenue of 27.31 billion USD.
