(wcsa.world) In the 2021 review of WIPO's annual World Intellectual Property Indicators Hyundai ranked as 4th in the world for its 141 industrial design registrations being published under the Hague System during 2020.

Hyundai Motor Company, often abbreviated to Hyundai Motors and commonly known as Hyundai, is a South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.

Currently, the company owns 33.88 percent of Kia Corporation, and also fully owns two marques including its luxury cars subsidiary, Genesis Motor, and an electric vehicle sub-brand, Ioniq. Those three brands altogether comprise the Hyundai Motor Group.

  • 1967: Incorporation of Hyundai Motor Company
  • 1968: Completion of Ulsan assembly plant. Company's first model, the Cortina, was released in cooperation with Ford Motor Company
  • 1975: the Pony, the first South Korean car, was released, with styling by Giorgio Giugiaro of ItalDesign and powertrain technology provided by Japan's Mitsubishi Motors.
  • 1984: Hyundai began exporting the Pony to Canada
  • 1986: Hyundai began to sell cars in the United States, and the Excel was nominated as "Best Product #10" by Fortune magazine, largely because of its affordability.
  • 1988: The company began to produce models with its own technology, beginning with the midsize Sonata.
  • 1996: Hyundai Motor India Limited was established with a production plant in Irungattukottai near Chennai, India
  • 2002: Cumulative production at Asan plant surpasses 1 million units
  • 2004: Cumulative exports surpass 10 million units

 

  • 2010: Annual sales in the U.S. surpass 500,000 units
  • 2012: Hyundai Motor  established the Brazil plant
  • 2019: Hyundai Motor  Establish its First Indonesian Manufacturing Plant
  • 2020: Launched the first electric minibus, County
  • 2021: Elec City, Hyundai Motor's first fuel-cell bus began its trial service in Munich

 

Hyundai operates the world's largest integrated automobile manufacturing facility in Ulsan, South Korea which has an annual production capacity of 1.6 million units. The company employs about 75,000 people worldwide. Hyundai vehicles are sold in 193 countries through 5,000 dealerships and showrooms.
