WCSA - On This Day – March 12, 2019 - First Bottles of Coca-Cola, in 1894

(Wcsa.world) On March 12, 1894, the first bottles of Coca-Cola were sold in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Dr. John Pemberton, a pharmacist in Atlanta, Georgia, had invented Coca-Cola eight years earlier. The drink’s popularity quickly spread and customers enjoyed it at soda fountains throughout the South.

Joseph Biedenharn, the owner of the soda fountain in Vicksburg, was the first to install bottling machinery in the rear of his store. This way, customers could buy their Coke and take it with them. Sales of Cokes skyrocketed, and Biedenharn’s profits soared.
